Cartageno, a city in the state of Para, has declared a curfew for Friday and Saturday, following the release of the police chief of Cartagens state, Juan Guillermo Sanchez.
A curfew was imposed in the city in response to a spate of violent incidents.
The curfew is due to be lifted at 9 p.m. local time (23:00 GMT) on Friday and 1:00 a.m., on Saturday.
The mayor of Cartago, Fernando Ruiz, said in a tweet that the curfew was necessary because of the “incidents of violence and vandalism” that have been reported in the area.
The region is experiencing widespread shortages of food and other goods as a result of the ongoing economic crisis.
